Our health testing levels for the American Foxhound
We group breeding programs into three levels based on testing depth. Ask your breeder directly which level they meet.
A breeder at the Great level performs all mandatory tests plus 2 additional clinically recommended screenings that reduce risk in this breed.
In addition to mandatory tests:
Pelger-Huet anomaly(PHA)
Andere
The Pelger-Huet anomaly is a harmless, inherited variation affecting the white blood cells, specifically a type of immune cell called granulocytes. In affected dogs, the nuclei of these cells do not segment or mature into their typical multi-lobed shape, though they continue to function completely normally. This condition is usually discovered by chance during routine blood tests and does not harm the dog's immune system.

Elbow Dysplasia(ED)
Bewegungsapparat
Elbow dysplasia is a developmental disorder of the musculoskeletal system where the three bones forming the elbow joint do not fit together properly. This misalignment causes abnormal friction and wear on the joint cartilage, eventually leading to painful, chronic joint inflammation and arthritis. It is a complex genetic condition influenced by multiple genes.
