Als ich mich für einen Argentinischen Pila entschieden habe, war mir klar, dass die Hautpflege ein großes Thema sein würde. Meine Hündin fühlt sich unglaublich weich und warm an – fast wie eine lebendige Wärmflasche. Kein Wunder, dass diese Hunde früher im Norden Argentiniens traditionell als Bettwärmer für Menschen mit Rheuma genutzt wurden. Sie liebt es über alles, sich unter die Decke zu kuscheln.
Die Kehrseite der Haarlosigkeit ist jedoch der enorme Pflegeaufwand. Im Sommer ist Sonnencreme absolute Pflicht, da die Haut sonst extrem schnell verbrennt. Im Winter geht ohne einen warmen Hundemantel gar nichts, weil sie sofort anfängt zu zittern. Zudem neigt ihre Haut zu Trockenheit, weshalb wir sie regelmäßig mit speziellen Feuchtigkeitscremes pflegen müssen, um Irritationen oder Dermatitis vorzubeugen. Wer einen pflegeleichten Hund sucht, ist hier definitiv falsch.

Mein Rüde ist ein echtes Energiebündel und extrem wachsam. Er registriert jede ungewöhnliche Bewegung im Garten sofort. Optisch ist er mit seiner kleinen, punkigen Fellkrone auf dem Kopf ein absoluter Hingucker. Er ist unglaublich loyal und anhänglich gegenüber unserer Familie, zeigt sich Fremden gegenüber aber erst einmal misstrauisch und distanziert.
Eine rassetypische Herausforderung, die mit dem haarlosen Gen zusammenhängt, betrifft die Zähne. Durch die ektodermale Dysplasie fehlen ihm von Geburt an einige Zähne (Oligodontie). Das ist bei dieser Rasse leider völlig normal und genetisch bedingt. Man muss beim Futter und der Zahngesundheit also von Anfang an sehr aufmerksam sein. Außerdem braucht er als Urtyp-Hund viel Beschäftigung und Bewegung, sonst wird er schnell unruhig.

Einen echten Argentinischen Pila zu finden, ist außerhalb seiner Heimatregion Salta und Jujuy im Norden Argentiniens extrem schwer, da die Rasse selbst dort recht selten ist. Wir haben unseren Rüden über Kontakte zu Rasseliebhabern bekommen. Er ist ein absolut fröhlicher, verspielter und anpassungsfähiger Begleiter, der sich fantastisch mit unseren Kindern versteht.
Man darf jedoch nicht unterschätzen, dass es sich um eine sehr ursprüngliche Rasse handelt. Er hat seinen eigenen Kopf und zeigt manchmal eine gewisse Sturheit beim Training. Eine liebevolle, aber konsequente Erziehung und eine sehr frühe Sozialisierung sind extrem wichtig, damit er im Alltag entspannt bleibt. Wer sich auf seine sensible Natur und den eigenwilligen Charakter einlassen kann, bekommt einen unvergleichlich treuen Freund.
