Perrito ist mein absoluter Seelenhund, auch wenn wir beim Gassigehen oft schräge Blicke ernten. Manche Leute tuscheln oder finden ihn wegen seiner Haarlosigkeit 'hässlich', aber für mich ist er der wunderschönste und treueste Begleiter, den man sich vorstellen kann. Er ist unglaublich anhänglich, sucht ständig meine Nähe und kuschelt am liebsten stundenlang auf meinem Schoß.
Die Pflege ist allerdings nicht zu unterschätzen. Da ihm das schützende Fell fehlt, ist seine Haut sehr empfindlich. Im Sommer müssen wir wegen Sonnenbrandgefahr gut aufpassen und Sonnenschutz nutzen, während er im Winter ohne warmen Pullover sofort anfängt zu zittern. Zudem hat er rassetypisch ein paar fehlende Zähne, was mit dem Gendefekt der Haarlosigkeit zusammenhängt – darauf muss man sich gesundheitlich einfach einstellen.
Trotz seiner zierlichen Statur ist er ein richtiger Hund mit einem aufgeweckten Charakter. Er lernt extrem schnell, kann aber auch mal seinen eigenen, sturen Kopf durchsetzen. Man darf ihn auf keinen Fall wie ein Spielzeug behandeln, sonst erzieht er ganz schnell seine Besitzer statt umgekehrt.

Ihre nackte Haut ist zudem anfällig für Kratzer und trocknet schnell aus, weshalb wir sie regelmäßig mit spezieller Feuchtigkeitscreme pflegen.
Wer sich für diese Hunde entscheidet, sollte wissen, dass sie trotz ihrer geringen Größe vollwertige, agile Hunde sind. Sie liebt ihre täglichen Schnüffelrunden und das anschließende, ausgiebige Aufwärmen an sonnigen Plätzen im Haus. Sie ist eine treue Seele, aber eben kein pflegeleichter Schoßhund.

Mein kleiner Guero ist ein haarloser Chihuahua-Mix, der vermutlich auch einige Gene des mexikanischen Nackthundes in sich trägt. Das Wetter bestimmt unseren Alltag: Bei Kälte trägt er stolz seine Pullover-Kollektion, und im Sommer meiden wir die pralle Mittagssonne.
Man muss sich im Klaren darüber sein, dass diese Hunde in der Zucht sehr umstritten sind und man oft mit Vorwürfen zum Thema 'Qualzucht' konfrontiert wird. Gesundheitlich muss man einfach extrem achtsam sein.
