Wir haben unseren Rüden damals aus dem Tierschutz adoptiert, wo er fälschlicherweise als Labrador-Mix deklariert war. Schnell wurde uns jedoch klar, dass wir hier ein echtes Jagdhund-Paket vor uns haben, und nach einiger Recherche stand fest: Es ist ein Braque Français vom Typ Gascogne. Er ist im Haus ein unfassbar sanfter, anhänglicher und loyaler Begleiter, der die Nähe zu uns sucht und extrem kinderlieb ist.
Allerdings darf man die jagdliche Passion draußen keinesfalls unterschätzen. Sein Vorstehtrieb und die Jagdlust sind extrem ausgeprägt. Wer sich für diese Rasse entscheidet, muss sich darüber im Klaren sein, dass man einen echten Arbeitshund an der Leine hat, der körperlich und geistig ausgelastet werden will. Für ein unruhiges Stadtleben ist dieser sensible Naturbursche meiner Meinung nach absolut nicht geeignet – er braucht die Natur und viel Bewegung auf dem Land.

Da es in Deutschland extrem schwer war, einen Züchter für den Typ Gascogne zu finden, haben wir unseren 'Vision' direkt aus Südfrankreich abgeholt. Wir wollten einen sportlichen Hund, der uns auch im Turnierhundesport begleiten kann. Was soll ich sagen? Er ist ein absoluter Traum im Alltag, extrem anpassungsfähig und verträglich mit anderen Hunden.
Man muss aber wissen, worauf man sich einlässt: Der Gascogne ist im Vergleich zum kleineren Pyrenäen-Typ zwar etwas robuster gebaut, aber er ist und bleibt ein hochpassionierter Jagdhund mit einer exzellenten Nase. Er lernt zwar rasend schnell, ist aber gleichzeitig ein extrem sensibler Hund. Ein zu harter Ton oder lautes Schimpfen verträgt er überhaupt nicht – da zieht er sich sofort verunsichert zurück. Man erreicht bei dieser Rasse alles über Sanftmut und positive Bestärkung.

Ich führe meine Braque Francais Hündin jagdlich und bin von ihrer Arbeitsweise absolut begeistert. Im Vergleich zu deutschen Vorstehhunden wie dem Deutsch-Kurzhaar ist der Gascogne deutlich führiger und weicher im Wesen. Sie arbeitet im Revier extrem ausdauernd, teilt sich ihre Kräfte klug ein und zeigt ein fantastisches, instinktives Vorstehverhalten mit einer extrem feinen Nase.
Allerdings muss man sich im Klaren sein, dass diese französischen Vorstehhunde primär für die Federwildjagd gezüchtet wurden. Wer kompromisslose Raubzeugschärfe an Fuchs oder Waschbär sucht, wird mit dieser Rasse eher nicht glücklich, da Härte nie das Zuchtziel war. Für die Arbeit vor und nach dem Schuss und als absolut treuer, sanftmütiger Familienhund im Alltag ist sie für mich jedoch der perfekte Allrounder.
