History
The Entlebucher Mountain Dog comes from the Entlebuch region of Switzerland, which gave it its name. These dogs have been crossed with local dogs over the centuries and used as herding and herding dogs. The Entlebucher was originally used as an all-round farm dog that herded livestock, guarded the farm and served as a draft animal. Its popularity increased in the 19th century when Swiss Mountain Dogs became known at international dog shows. The Entlebucher Mountain Dog was recognized as an independent breed by the F"d"ration Cynologique Internationale (FCI) in 1927. In recent decades, the Entlebucher has become increasingly popular as a family dog and companion dog, without losing its enthusiasm for work and its abilities as a herding dog.
