Als wir unseren weiß-orangenen Rüden über die Laufhunderettung adoptiert haben, wussten wir, dass ein echtes Überraschungspaket auf uns zukommt. Er kannte anfangs nur das Leben im französischen Zwinger und war im Haus völlig überfordert. Stubenreinheit, das Kennenlernen von Alltagsgeräuschen und vor allem das Gehen an der lockeren Leine mussten wir ganz von vorne kleinschrittig aufbauen. Zudem war er mit seinen über 70 cm Schulterhöhe und gut 40 kg Gewicht anfangs extrem grobmotorisch und hat im Haus gerne mal unabsichtlich etwas umgerannt.
Mittlerweile hat er sich aber zu einem absoluten „Sofatyp“ entwickelt. Drinnen ist er unglaublich ruhig, verschmust und anhänglich. Seine Begrüßung ist allerdings legendär: Er stößt jedes Mal einen lautstarken Heuler aus, wenn wir nach Hause kommen. Man muss sich einfach darüber im Klaren sein, dass diese Hunde draußen einen enormen Jagdtrieb haben, aber im Haus nach der Eingewöhnung unfassbar sanfte Riesen sind. Man braucht am Anfang einfach viel Geduld.

Wir haben uns bewusst für einen Grand Anglo-Français Blanc et Orange entschieden, weil wir sehr ländlich wohnen und einen großen, aber verträglichen Hund gesucht haben. Da diese Rasse für das Leben in großen Meuten gezüchtet wurde, ist er im Umgang mit anderen Hunden super entspannt und zeigt keinerlei Aggressionen. Auch mit unseren Kindern ist er im Alltag unglaublich geduldig, sanftmütig und anhänglich.
Die Kehrseite der Medaille ist jedoch der extrem stark ausgeprägte Jagdtrieb. Ein Ableinen im Wald ist für uns tabu, da er sofort jede Fährte aufnimmt und dann im Tunnel ist. Er hat eine unglaubliche Ausdauer und benötigt täglich sehr viel Bewegung und Beschäftigung im Freien – am besten über Nasenarbeit. Wer einen reinen Begleiter für kurze Runden um den Block sucht, wird mit dieser Rasse definitiv nicht glücklich. Man braucht Platz und muss aktiv sein.
