Cavapoochon overview
The essentials — key facts, traits, and health priorities — before you dive deeper.
Health grade
Relative to other breeds
As a triple designer mix, the Cavapoochon inherits the health risks of its parent breeds, particularly mitral valve disease (MVD) and syringomyelia from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, as well as patellar luxation from the Poodle. Since there are no controlled breeding standards or mandatory health tests for these crossbreeds, buyers must be extremely vigilant. Without voluntary, comprehensive health records for the parent dogs, the risk of chronic illness is high.

What matters most
Especially with a Cavapoochon, choosing the right breeder is the single most important decision you'll make. Serious breeders consistently test the parents for inherited conditions, prioritize healthy early socialization, and stay accountable long after handover. A cheap puppy without health screening tends to become the most expensive dog later on.
See HonestDog breeder standards →Is the Cavapoochon right for you?
The Cavapoochon is an extremely people-oriented designer mix of Cavalier, Poodle, and Bichon Frisé—a companion dog grab bag bred purely for company and aesthetics. You aren't buying a predictable breed, but rather a genetic surprise package featuring three different operating systems.
Perfect for you if:
- You are looking for a dog whose only genetic purpose is to accompany you everywhere—he doesn't have a real job, he just wants to be by your side.
- You have planned the time and budget for very intensive coat care and regular visits to the professional groomer.
- You live in an apartment and are looking for an adaptable companion for a relaxed daily routine.
- You want a cheerful dog for beginners that forms a close bond and quickly forgives minor training mistakes.
Less ideal if:
- You expect guaranteed traits, a coat that definitely won't shed, or a fixed final size—with a triple mix, genetics are a game of roulette, not a reliable standard.
- You need to leave him alone regularly for several hours on weekdays—this companion dog combination suffers intensely from separation and tends to bark constantly out of frustration.
- You are looking for an athletic partner for long jogging sessions or demanding hikes.
The real vibes check
A Cavapoochon is like a living stuffed animal that follows you like a personal shadow at every turn—but stuffed animals don't need training, and this clever mix certainly does. If you take the intensive grooming and the potential for separation anxiety seriously, you'll get the ultimate companion; if you buy him only for his cute looks, you'll quickly end up with a nervous, non-stop barker.
Breed Profile
The Cavapoochon is a medium-sized, well-proportioned dog with a happy and endearing expression. Its fur is curly to wavy and medium long, giving it the characteristic "plush" appearance. This lovely mixed breed is the result of a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, a Bichon Fris and a Poodle, resulting in a versatile and charming dog breed that is not listed in any FCI group as it is a hybrid breed. Despite this, the Cavapoochon is very popular among families and dog lovers due to its sweet appearance and adorable temperament.

History
The Cavapoochon is a relatively new dog breed and was only developed at the beginning of the 21st century. The exact time and place of its creation is unknown, but it probably originated in the USA, where hybrid breed design is very popular. The original idea was to breed a small, friendly and hypoallergenic dog that combines the best characteristics of its parent breeds - the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, the Bichon Fris and the Poodle. Despite its short history, the Cavapoochon has quickly gained popularity and secured a permanent place in the hearts of many dog lovers.
The Cavapoochon is a designer dog breed created from crossing Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Poodles and Bichon Frisés, and was bred to be a hypoallergenic companion dog.

Character & Temperament
The Cavapoochon is known for its friendly and loving nature. He is a happy, lively and very adaptable dog who feels comfortable in different environments and life situations. Whether in a lively family with children or as a companion dog for an individual, the Cavapoochon adapts well and is able to form strong bonds with its people. Despite its small size, the Cavapoochon is an active and playful dog that enjoys spending time with its owner, whether playing, going for a walk or simply cuddling on the sofa. Although he is not as energetic as some other small dog breeds, he still needs daily physical and mental stimulation to be happy and balanced. Another advantage of the Cavapoochon is its intelligence. This smart little dog loves mental challenges and learns new commands and tricks with enthusiasm and ease. His quick comprehension and desire to please make him a great partner for dog sports like agility or obedience. Some Cavapoochons can be a little shy or reserved around strangers at first, but with proper socialization they quickly learn that new people and situations are not a threat. They are not particularly alert and do not tend to show strong territorial behavior, making them a rather calm and relaxed pet. One of the Cavapoochon's best features is its adaptability. He feels just as comfortable in an apartment in the city as in a house in the country. He is also able to adapt to life with other pets and can be a great addition to a family with children. Despite its many positive characteristics and adaptability, it should be noted that the Cavapoochon does not like to be left alone for long periods of time. He is a very social dog and loves the company of his people. If left alone for too long, he may suffer from separation anxiety and develop unwanted behaviors such as barking or chewing. Fortunately, the Cavapoochon is not a strong hunter and generally does not have a strong prey-catching behavior. However, it is important to introduce him to other animals as a puppy to ensure he learns to get along well with them.
| Trainability Picks up commands quickly and wants to please. | Eager to learn |
| Watchfulness Occasionally alerts but is fundamentally open. | Low |
| Openness to Strangers Warms up quickly and is generally welcoming. | Friendly |
| Hunting or Herding Drive Barely any prey drive — small animals trigger nothing. | Very low |
Fun Fact!
Did you know that the Cavapoochon is sometimes called the “Forever Puppy?” is called? That's because he still retains that cute puppy look even when he's an adult!
What Awaits You
The Cavapoochon is a friendly and affectionate companion dog that is particularly charming and intelligent due to its mix of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Poodle, and Bichon Frisé. These dogs are easy to train, social, and excellent as family pets. They require regular activity and grooming but are also suitable for allergy sufferers due to their friendly nature.
Housing & Care
The Cavapoochon is a very adaptable dog that can adapt well to different living situations. Although he is active and playful, his energy requirements are not so high that he cannot be kept in a city apartment, provided he gets enough exercise and mental stimulation. Cavapoochons are also very social dogs and generally get along well with children. Their friendly and patient nature makes them great family dogs. Cavapoochons are also typically compatible with other pets, including cats, provided they are properly socialized. As with any dog, it is important to carefully monitor encounters with other pets, especially when the Cavapoochon is still a puppy.

Training & Education
A Cavapoochon is an intelligent and willing learner who usually enjoys training. He responds well to positive reinforcement methods and can learn a variety of commands and tricks. His intelligence and willingness to please also make him a good candidate for dog sports like agility or obedience. Despite his ability to learn, it is important that training remains varied and challenging to keep the Cavapoochon mentally stimulated. He may be prone to over-busyness if he doesn't receive enough mental stimulation. Therefore, it is important to find a balance between physical activity and mental activity. When it comes to training, it is important to start socialization early and ensure that the Cavapoochon experiences a variety of people, places and situations. This helps promote a confident and well-adjusted dog.
Nutrition & Care
A Cavapoochon is an active, lively dog that requires a balanced diet to stay healthy and fit. He should be fed a diet rich in high-quality animal proteins, as well as a good balance of carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. As with all dogs, the ideal food and amount can vary depending on the dog's age, weight, activity level and health status. In terms of grooming, the Cavapoochon has a curly to wavy coat that requires regular grooming to prevent knots and mats. The Cavapoochon has an undercoat and can cope well with the German climate. The coat should be brushed regularly and he may also need regular trims to keep the coat tidy. However, despite its curly coat, the Cavapoochon is not a big shedder and is often considered hypoallergenic, which can make it a good choice for people with allergies.
| Care Level Regular brushing and occasional professional grooming. | Moderate |
| Exercise Needs Needs 1–2 hours of real exercise daily. | Active |
| Shedding Barely any shedding — occasional vacuuming is enough. | Minimal |

In daily life this can mean
You should honestly factor in a higher veterinary budget, schedule regular heart and eye check-ups, and keep an eye out for early signs of pain or knee issues in your daily life.
The breeder's role
Responsible breeders have the hearts, knees, and eyes of the parent animals checked and pay attention to neurological risks—however, the fundamental risks of this breed cannot be completely eliminated even with these precautions.

Experiences with the Cavapoochon
