Ich habe mich damals schockverliebt, weil diese Hunde wie Mini-Huskys aussehen, aber die Realität in einer Mietwohnung ist echt hart. Mein Rüde leidet extrem unter Trennungsangst, was bei dieser Rasse leider keine Seltenheit ist. Wenn er auch nur kurz alleine gelassen wird, fängt er an zu schreien – und ich meine kein normales Jaulen, sondern ein markerschütterndes Kreischen, das wie ein gefolterter Kojote klingt.
Wir haben mittlerweile mehrere tausend Euro in Hundetrainer gesteckt, aber dieses lautstarke Mitteilungsbedürfnis und die extreme Anhänglichkeit kriegen wir nur schwer in den Griff. Für Anfänger oder Leute, die einen ruhigen, unkomplizierten Wohnungshund suchen, ist der Klee Kai meiner Meinung nach absolut ungeeignet. Man braucht extrem starke Nerven und tolerante Nachbarn.

Wir halten seit über sieben Jahren zwei Klee Kais und die beiden könnten charakterlich kaum unterschiedlicher sein. Unsere Hündin ist extrem aufgeschlossen, liebt jeden Menschen und kuschelt für ihr Leben gern auf dem Sofa. Unser Rüde dagegen ist mein absoluter Schatten, aber Fremden gegenüber extrem scheu, misstrauisch und weicht sofort zurück.
Man muss sich darauf einstellen, dass diese Hunde absolute 'Kletten' (Velcro Dogs) sind und sich meist eine feste Bezugsperson im Haushalt aussuchen. Sie sind unglaublich vielseitig, aktiv und begleiten uns problemlos beim Wandern. Allerdings haaren sie beim Fellwechsel zweimal im Jahr extrem – man hat dann gefühlt eine zweite Schicht Fell im ganzen Haus liegen. Auch am Rückruf müssen wir kontinuierlich arbeiten, da sie ihren eigenen Kopf haben.

Mein Klee Kai ist bildschön, aber die Erziehung erfordert extrem viel Geduld. Er ist unglaublich stur und hat einen so starken eigenen Willen, dass ich ihn draußen fast nie von der Leine lassen kann – der Rückruf funktioniert einfach nicht zuverlässig, sobald er abgelenkt ist oder seinen Dickkopf durchsetzen will.
Zudem ist er sehr sensibel und rassetypisch extrem 'handscheu' gegenüber Fremden. Man darf sich ihm niemals von oben mit der Hand über den Kopf nähern, da weicht er sofort aus oder schnappt im schlimmsten Fall vor Schreck. Ich muss Besuchern immer einschärfen, ihn nur vorsichtig von unten an der Brust anzufassen. Er ist eben ein anspruchsvoller, misstrauischer Hund und kein einfaches Kuscheltier für jedermann.
