History
The Norrbottenspitz, named after the Nordic region of Norrbotten in Sweden, has a long and storied past. Originally used as a hunting and herding dog, it played an important role in Swedish culture and history. This breed was almost extinct as modern hunting methods eliminated the need for such a dog. Fortunately, lovers of the breed made efforts to revive it, and in 1967 the Norrbottenspitz was officially recognized by the FCI as a separate breed.
