Unser Rüde bewacht das Grundstück absolut zuverlässig und fügt sich eigentlich wunderbar bei uns ein. Er ist ein treuer Kerl, aber sein extrem ausgeprägter Schutzinstinkt stellt uns im Alltag vor echte Herausforderungen. Er hat eine so starke Bindung zu mir aufgebaut, dass er meint, mich permanent beschützen zu müssen – sogar vor meinem eigenen Partner.
Das ging so weit, dass er meinen Mann furchtbar anknurrte und sogar schon nach ihm schnappte, als dieser abends etwas später zu mir ins Bett kommen wollte. Uns ist schnell klar geworden, dass man bei dieser Rasse mit normaler Hundeerziehung nicht weiterkommt. Er braucht eine sehr konsequente, aber liebevolle Führung und klare Grenzen, damit er versteht, dass er in solchen Situationen nicht selbstständig entscheiden und die Kontrolle übernehmen muss.

Wir halten unseren Kaukasen auf einem großen Grundstück von rund 2000 Quadratmetern, wo er sich frei bewegen kann. Was viele überrascht: Große, stundenlange Spaziergänge findet er überhaupt nicht toll. Er bleibt am liebsten auf seinem Territorium und behält alles im Blick.
Im Vergleich zu unseren früheren Hunden ist er extrem selbstbewusst und schaltet gerne mal auf stur oder stellt sich 'schwerhörig', wenn ihm ein Kommando nicht passt. Man muss seine Eigenständigkeit einfach akzeptieren und darf keinen Kadavergehorsam erwarten. Trotzdem ist er absolut kein aggressives Monster, wie es in manchen Schauergeschichten im Internet dargestellt wird, sondern ein sehr ausgeglichener Begleiter, wenn man ihn versteht.
