History
The Jura Hound has its origins in the Jura region of Switzerland and has been used as a working dog for hunting for centuries. Its exact origin is not documented, but it is believed to have descended from ancient Swiss hounds, which in turn may have descended from the hounds of the Celts. The breed was first mentioned in the 15th century and has since been used in Switzerland and parts of France to hunt wild boar, fox and hare. Wir haben unsere Hündin vor einigen Jahren über den Tierschutz adoptiert. Sie stammt ursprünglich aus Italien, wo diese Hunde oft ausschließlich im Zwinger als reine Arbeitstiere gehalten werden. Am Anfang war sie Fremden gegenüber extrem vorsichtig und zurückhaltend, da sie den engen Kontakt zu Menschen einfach nicht kannte. Mit viel Geduld und liebevoller Konsequenz hat sie aber schnell Vertrauen gefasst und sich zu einem unglaublich sanften, anhänglichen Familienmitglied entwickelt, das besonders zu Kindern absolut liebenswürdig ist.
Man darf sich jedoch nichts vormachen: Der Jagdtrieb ist enorm. Sobald wir das Haus verlassen, klebt ihre Nase am Boden. Sie läuft bei uns fast ausschließlich an der Schleppleine, da ein Freilauf aufgrund ihrer extremen Passion im Wald einfach zu gefährlich wäre. Ein gut gesicherter Garten ist für uns Gold wert, damit sie sich auch mal ohne Leine richtig austoben kann. Um sie geistig auszulasten, machen wir regelmäßig Mantrailing, was ihr unglaublich viel Spaß macht und ihrer feinen Spürnase gerecht wird.

Ich führe meinen Bruno nun schon seit einigen Jahren jagdlich auf Hase und Reh. Seine Nase und sein Fährtenwille sind schlichtweg phänomenal. Wenn er eine Spur aufnimmt, jagt er mit einem wunderschönen, tiefen Spurlaut, den man kilometerweit hört – im Wald ist er voll in seinem Element. Allerdings muss man wissen, auf was man sich einlässt: Der Jura Laufhund ist ein ausgesprochener „Weitjager“.
Es ist bei dieser Rasse völlig normal, dass sie sich schnell vom Führer lösen und auch mal zwei bis drei Stunden eigenständig eine Fährte verfolgen, ohne sich umzuschauen. Ohne modernen GPS-Tracker gehe ich gar nicht mehr los, denn er bricht die Jagd erst ab, wenn er fertig ist, und kommt oft erst sehr spät zurück. Man braucht starke Nerven und muss diese extreme Selbstständigkeit akzeptieren. Zu Hause ist er dafür der entspannteste Hund überhaupt, absolut ruhig und schläft am liebsten stundenlang auf seinem Platz.

Wer sich einen Jura Laufhund als reinen Begleithund anschafft, sollte genau wissen, worauf er sich einlässt. Diese Hunde sind keine typischen „will-to-please“-Hunde. Sie sind extrem eigensinnig und selbstständig. Wenn man sie im Wald von der Leine lässt, suchen sie sofort nach Spuren und blenden den Menschen komplett aus. Das sensible Gemüt der Rasse verträgt absolut keinen Druck, aber man muss in der Erziehung extrem konsequent bleiben.
Ein normaler Spaziergang reicht dem enormen Laufbedürfnis dieses Hundes bei Weitem nicht aus. Wir machen mit unserer Hündin sehr anspruchsvolles, intensives Mantrailing, um ihren Kopf und ihre Nase auszulasten – einfaches Agility oder stupides Apportieren wäre für sie viel zu öde. Zudem sind es sehr soziale Rudeltiere. Wir merken deutlich, dass sie sich in Gesellschaft unseres Zweithundes am wohlsten fühlt. Einzelhaltung ist für diese Rasse meiner Erfahrung nach nicht ideal.
