History
The Czech Terrier has its origins in the former Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic. It was developed in the 1940s by a Czech breeder and hunter named Frantisek Horak. Horak crossed the Scottish Terrier and the Sealyham Terrier to create a breed suitable for hunting in the forests and the region's harsh climate. His goal was to breed a terrier that combined the positive characteristics of both breeds, such as intelligence, endurance and a good sense of smell. He also wanted the dog to have a calmer temperament than other terriers. The Czech Terrier was officially recognized as a breed by the F"d"ration Cynologique Internationale (FCI) in 1963. In the following years, the Cesky Terrier gained international recognition and became increasingly popular in various countries, including Germany.
The Czech Terrier was bred to hunt foxes and badgers in the Bohemian forests.

Character & Temperament
The Czech Terrier is known for its amiable and calm temperament. Compared to other terriers, he is less stormy and adapts well to different living conditions. He is a loyal and affectionate companion who bonds closely with his family. He loves taking part in family life and values time together, be it a walk, playing or just cuddling on the sofa. Despite his calm nature, the Cesky Terrier is an alert dog. He is attentive and reports when someone approaches the house, but without barking excessively. This makes him a good guard dog for the home. The Cesky Terrier is also intelligent and learns quickly. He is obedient and is well suited to various dog sports such as agility or obedience. His roots as a hunting dog are still evident in his interest in tracking scent and his enjoyment of digging. Since the Cesky Terrier is affectionate, he should be slowly trained to stay alone. Separations that last too long can be stressful for him. It is important to practice this gradually from the beginning. In terms of hunting behavior, the Cesky Terrier is less developed than other terriers, but it can still show some interest in small animals. If you already have small animals or live in an area with a lot of wildlife, it is advisable to pay attention and take action if necessary. The Cesky Terrier gets along well with children, especially if he grows up with them from an early age. He is also friendly with other dogs and, if properly socialized, can live harmoniously with cats. In summary, the Cesky Terrier is a wonderful, adaptable companion that can enjoy both active and quieter lifestyles. He will win your heart with his loyalty, intelligence and charm. Although he is a relatively easy dog to care for, his needs for companionship and mental and physical activity should not be underestimated. If you are willing to give him love, time and commitment, you will find in him a loyal friend for life.

Training & Education
Czech terriers are intelligent and willing to learn, which makes training easier. It is important to begin training and socialization in puppyhood. Since they were originally bred as hunting dogs, they can show distinctive hunting behavior. It is therefore advisable to offer alternative employment, such as: B. Nose work or search games. This breed is not prone to becoming a ball junkie, but they do enjoy a variety of activities and games. It is important to make sure that the dog is not overwhelmed and also has periods of rest. Czech Terriers should also learn frustration tolerance and impulse control as they can be stubborn at times. Because they are intelligent, they need mental stimulation and benefit from dog sports such as agility or obedience. It is important to keep the training positive and varied to keep the dog interested.
Nutrition & Care
In terms of nutrition, it is important to provide the Czech Terrier with a balanced and high-quality diet. Since they can be prone to hip dysplasia, it is especially important to keep an eye on their weight and avoid being overweight, which can put additional strain on the joints. When it comes to grooming, the Czech Terrier has a wiry coat with an undercoat. The coat should be brushed regularly to avoid matting. It is also recommended to trim the coat approximately every two months. Czech terriers shed little and cope well with the climate in Germany.
