Als wir uns für einen Cimarron Uruguayo entschieden haben, hieß es in vielen Rassebeschreibungen, dass diese Hunde Fremden gegenüber extrem misstrauisch und mit dem Fila Brasileiro vergleichbar seien. Bei unserem Rüden Watson hat sich das überhaupt nicht bestätigt. Er empfängt jeden Gast unglaublich freudig und gewährt im Grunde jedem Fremden problemlos Zutritt zum Haus. Zudem ist er absolut kinderlieb und ein toller Kumpel im Alltag.
Was uns von Anfang an wichtig war: Wir haben uns bewusst dagegen entschieden, seine Ohren rundzuschneiden oder die Rute zu kupieren, wie es im Ursprungsland Uruguay leider oft noch üblich ist. Er sieht auch mit seinen natürlichen Schlappohren wunderschön und stattlich aus. Man sollte sich aber bewusst sein, dass man mit so einem seltenen Hund auffällt und oft erklären muss, was für eine Rasse man da eigentlich an der Leine hat.

Mein Rüde Rumo ist ein echtes Energiebündel und extrem athletisch. Wenn wir uns mit anderen Cimarrons treffen – wie letztens mit seinem Bruder –, ist das ein herrlich wildes Gewusel. Die Hunde verstehen sich untereinander bei guter Sozialisierung wirklich klasse und sind sehr verspielt. Sie brauchen aber definitiv aktive Menschen, die sie körperlich und geistig fordern.
Als Halterin dieser seltenen Rasse sehe ich die Entwicklung in Europa allerdings auch mit einer gewissen Sorge. Man muss beim Kauf extrem aufpassen, woher der Welpe kommt. Hüftdysplasie (HD) ist leider auch beim Cimarron ein Thema, das man nicht verschweigen darf. Seriöse Züchter, die ihre Zuchttiere konsequent auf Erbkrankheiten testen und die Welpen von klein auf gut sozialisieren, sind bei dieser seltenen Rasse das A und O, um den tollen Charakter und die Gesundheit zu bewahren.

Wir haben im ländlichen Raum nach einem robusten, ursprünglichen und loyalen Begleiter gesucht. Besonders wichtig war meinem Mann, dass der Hund nicht sabbert (was bei großen Molossern ja oft ein Thema ist) und keinen extremen Eigengeruch hat. Genau das haben wir im Cimarron Uruguayo gefunden. Unsere Hündin ist extrem vielseitig: Wir machen Obedience, Fährtenarbeit und Agility mit ihr, und sie ist mit Feuereifer dabei.
Man darf jedoch nicht vergessen, dass diese Rasse einen ernstzunehmenden Schutz- und Wachinstinkt besitzt. Sie ist kein 'Allermannshund', der sich von jedem direkt anfassen lässt. Im Haus und zur Familie ist sie unglaublich liebevoll und sozial, aber auf dem Grundstück passt sie sehr genau auf. Man braucht eine konsequente, aber liebevolle Führung über positive Verstärkung, um diesen starken Charakter in die richtigen Bahnen zu lenken.
