Setup

How to add HonestDog

Assistant menus change often. The steps describe the way there; the labels on your screen may differ slightly.

Claudeclaude.ai, desktop and mobile apps
  1. In Claude (in your browser or the desktop app), open Settings and go to Connectors.
  2. Add a custom connector, name it HonestDog and enter the server URL.
  3. Save and you're done. The connector is then also available in the Claude app on your phone.

Once HonestDog appears in Claude's connector directory, you can also add it straight from there.

ChatGPTChatGPT Plus and Pro, in the browser
  1. Open ChatGPT in your browser and go to Apps & Connectors in Settings.
  2. Turn on developer mode in the advanced settings.
  3. Create a new connector: name HonestDog, the server URL, no authentication.
  4. Then pick HonestDog from the tools in a chat whenever you want to use it.

Until the HonestDog app appears in ChatGPT's app directory, developer mode is the way in. ChatGPT will point out that custom connectors aren't reviewed by OpenAI. HonestDog only reads public data and can't change anything.

GeminiGemini in the browser, then in the app too
  1. Open gemini.google.com in your browser and go to Connected Apps in Settings.
  2. Add a new custom app, enter the server URL and follow the steps.
  3. After that, you can use HonestDog in the Gemini app on your phone as well.

Google doesn't offer custom apps in every country, language and account type yet. If you don't see the option, it isn't available for your account yet.

PerplexityPerplexity Pro and Max
  1. In Perplexity, open Settings and go to Connectors.
  2. Add a custom remote connector: name HonestDog, the server URL, no authentication, transport Streamable HTTP.
MistralLe Chat / Mistral Vibe
  1. In Le Chat or Mistral Vibe, open Connectors.
  2. Add a connector, choose a custom MCP connector and enter the name HonestDog and the server URL.

Only a workspace admin can add custom connectors. On a personal account, that's you.

Trust & privacy

What happens with your data

  • Read-only: your assistant only fetches data that's already public on honestdog.de. It can't change anything or send anything on your behalf.

  • HonestDog doesn't see your conversation. Your assistant's provider processes it. To answer, we only use the search details the assistant sends, such as a breed or region.

  • Contact with breeders and shelters happens on honestdog.de. Every result links to the right page.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cost anything?

No. Using HonestDog in your AI assistant is free, and you don't need a HonestDog account. Whether your assistant offers custom connectors on your plan is up to its provider.

Which assistants work?

Any assistant that can connect to a remote MCP server. That includes Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Mistral, plus developer tools like Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code.

Why doesn't my assistant name breeders for some breeds?

For breeds with extreme-breeding traits, HonestDog deliberately doesn't connect you with breeders. Instead of a list, your assistant gets a note explaining why. It can still look up the breed's health data.

Does HonestDog sell dogs?

No. HonestDog doesn't sell dogs. We connect you with approved breeders and with shelters. Enquiries, meeting the dog and the purchase or adoption happen directly between you and them.
