May-Hegglin-Anomalie · MYH9-related thrombocytopenia · MYH9-assoziierte Thrombozytopenie · Macrothrombocytopenia with leukocyte inclusions
May-Hegglin Anomaly is an inherited blood disorder affecting platelets, which are the cells responsible for clotting, and white blood cells. It causes the body to produce abnormally large platelets, often accompanied by a lower overall platelet count. This genetic condition is mild and primarily impacts the blood-forming system rather than other major organs.
Most affected dogs show no visible symptoms and live completely normal lives, with the condition usually discovered during routine blood tests at any age. In very rare cases, an owner might notice a slightly increased tendency to bruise or bleed.
No active treatment or lifelong therapy is required for this condition. Owners should expect to spend approximately 100 to 500 EUR on diagnostic blood tests and precautionary veterinary consultations prior to any planned surgeries.
Estimated range of typical treatment cost. Actual cost depends on severity, clinic and region.
