Black in the Giant Schnauzer

The Black Giant Schnauzer features a deep black, dense, and wiry outer coat complemented by a matching solid black undercoat. Defining visual hallmarks include the characteristic harsh beard on the muzzle and bushy eyebrows. When properly hand-stripped and maintained, the coat exhibits a rich, healthy sheen free from white or light markings. Puppies are born with dark coats, with the signature coarse wire texture and intensely pigmented adult coloration developing fully through the first year of life. In German litters, the black variety is traditionally the most common and widely bred color of the breed. It is fully recognized as an official standard variety under FCI Breed Standard No. 181.
