Grey in the Weimaraner

The solid grey coat is the definitive trademark of the Weimaraner, often ranging from warm roe-grey to deep mouse-grey shades with a distinctive metallic sheen. The breed frequently displays subtle tonal variations, such as slightly lighter shading across the head and ears as well as an occasional darker dorsal stripe. Genetically a dilute of liver/brown, puppies are typically born with light grey coats and blue eyes, with the fur maturing into its adult depth and the eyes transitioning to amber within the first year. As the foundational hue of the breed, grey is standard and predominant across litters in Germany and worldwide. The official FCI Breed Standard No. 99 fully recognizes grey (including silver-, roe-, and mouse-grey as well as intermediate tones) as the authentic standard coloration.
