Faktor-XI-Mangel · F11 deficiency · Plasma thromboplastin antecedent deficiency · PTA deficiency
Factor XI deficiency is an inherited blood clotting disorder affecting the circulatory system. It occurs when the body does not produce enough Factor XI, which is a specific protein crucial for helping the blood clot properly. Without enough of this protein, the normal chemical chain reaction that stops bleeding is disrupted.
Affected dogs typically show no symptoms in their daily lives, but they may experience prolonged or severe bleeding after an injury, surgery, or dental procedure. This abnormal bleeding can become apparent at any age when a trauma or medical procedure occurs.
While the underlying genetic condition cannot be cured, it is manageable by taking precautions, such as administering blood plasma transfusions before any planned surgeries. Treatment is typically only needed during these specific medical events, with costs ranging from 500 to 3000 EUR.
