Paradoxical pseudomyotonia · PP
This is a hereditary muscle disorder affecting the skeletal muscles, where the muscles fail to relax normally after contraction or when exposed to cold temperatures. It is caused by a genetic mutation in the SLC7A10 gene, which disrupts the chemical signals needed for muscles to loosen up after tensing.
Symptoms typically appear in puppies or young dogs as sudden muscle stiffness or a temporary inability to move following physical activity or cold exposure. These episodes generally subside after a short rest.
The condition is not curable but can be managed long-term with lifestyle adjustments and medication. Lifelong supportive care is estimated to cost between 1,000 and 4,000 EUR.
Estimated range of typical treatment cost. Actual cost depends on severity, clinic and region.
