See puppiesA White German Shepherd features a solid, pure white to slightly off-white double coat devoid of any dark masks, saddles, or markings. The dense topcoat paired with a thick undercoat creates a sturdy, weather-resistant texture with a subtle natural sheen. Puppies are typically born bright white; as they mature into adulthood, subtle cream or light biscuit shading may occasionally develop along the dorsal stripe or ear tips. Within official FCI and VDH breeding lines, this coloration is exceptionally rare due to its recessive nature and systematic exclusion from selective breeding programs. Under the official FCI Standard No. 166, white is explicitely classified as a disqualifying fault. Historically, white-coated dogs of this lineage served as the genetic foundation for the Berger Blanc Suisse (White Swiss Shepherd Dog), which is now recognized as a separate breed.
White is not standard-conforming in the German Shepherd.

Colour is not a mark of quality. A price premium for a ‘rare’ colour is a warning sign.
