Cream in the Labrador Retriever

In the Labrador Retriever, cream represents the lightest shade within the standard yellow spectrum. The short, dense, weather-resistant double coat presents a uniform solid coloration with a healthy sheen, ranging from near-white cream to soft vanilla. Subtle deeper shadings often appear across the ears, along the topline, and at the base of the otter tail. Puppies are typically born very pale and gently deepen in tone during their first year of development. According to FCI Breed Standard No. 122, cream is fully standard-compliant, as yellow is officially defined as ranging from light cream to fox red. Consequently, cream-coated Labradors are common and regularly represented across litters in Germany and worldwide.

Colour is not a mark of quality. A price premium for a ‘rare’ colour is a warning sign.
