Yellow in the Labrador Retriever

The yellow Labrador Retriever features a solid, short, dense double coat with a weather-resistant undercoat. According to the breed standard, the color spectrum ranges from light cream to fox red, often showing slightly deeper shading across the ears, topline, and base of the otter tail compared to the underbody. Puppies are frequently born in lighter shades and typically darken as their adult guard hairs develop throughout the first year of life. Alongside black, yellow is one of the most common and traditionally established colors seen in litters across Germany and internationally. Yellow is fully recognized in the FCI standard No. 122, where a small white patch on the chest is officially permissible.
