Nasal philtrum arteritis · Arteritis des Nasenspiegels · Dermal arteritis of the nasal philtrum · Familiäre nasale Arteritis
This is an inflammatory condition affecting the blood vessels, known as arteritis, in the skin of a dog's nose. The inflammation restricts blood flow to the local tissue, which leads to tissue breakdown and damage. A skin biopsy evaluated by a pathologist is the standard method used to confirm this diagnosis.
Owners typically notice a deep, raw sore or ulcer right in the center of the dog's nose that may bleed repeatedly or heavily. This condition most commonly first appears in young adult dogs.
While the condition is lifelong and cannot be fully cured, it is treatable and can be managed with ongoing medications. Lifetime management typically costs between 1,500 and 5,000 EUR.
