Skeletal Dysplasia 2 (SD2) is an inherited bone growth disorder affecting the skeletal system. It causes a mild form of disproportionate dwarfism, where the long bones of the legs do not grow to their normal length. The torso and head develop normally, resulting in a slightly uneven body shape.
Owners will notice that the dog has unusually short front and back legs starting in puppyhood, typically visible by a few months of age. Despite their shorter stature, affected dogs generally move comfortably and do not experience pain from the condition itself.
There is no cure for this genetic condition, but it rarely requires active medical treatment. If mild joint wear occurs later in life, it can be managed with basic joint supplements or occasional therapy, with lifetime costs typically ranging from 0 to 500 EUR.
