How do you spot a puppy mill straight away? Walk away if you come across these warning signs:
- No results: The seller dodges questions about patellar luxation and only points to the blue EU pet passport.
- Allergy guarantees: Dubious sellers often advertise with the promise "100% anti-allergenic". A reputable breeder will explain that the low-shedding coat is allergy-friendly, but that any reaction has to be tested individually.
- Questionable handover: The mother isn't on site, the puppies seem fearful, are offered without you seeing the living quarters, or are supposed to leave before they're a full eight weeks old.
- Mass production: The seller constantly has puppies of all sorts of fashionable breeds or "poo" crosses on offer at the same time.
Take your time choosing, insist on seeing all the health documents and support only breeders who put the dogs' welfare first without compromise.
