Dog Erythrocyte Antigen 6 · Hunde-Erythrozyten-Antigen 6 · DEA-6 Blood Group · Canine Blood Group DEA 6
DEA 6 is a naturally occurring blood group system in dogs, determined by whether a specific marker called an antigen is present on the surface of the red blood cells. This is a normal genetic variation rather than a disease, affecting the cardiovascular and immune systems during medical procedures. Knowing a dog's blood type is important to prevent the immune system from attacking donor blood during a transfusion.
This blood group does not cause any outward symptoms or health problems in daily life, and it is present from birth. It only becomes relevant if the dog needs a blood transfusion, where an incompatible match could trigger an adverse reaction.
No treatment is necessary as this is a normal biological trait. If blood typing or compatibility testing is performed prior to a transfusion, the cost typically ranges from 0 to 150 EUR.
Estimated range of typical treatment cost. Actual cost depends on severity, clinic and region.
