Kleinhirnataxie · Hereditäre Ataxie · Cerebelläre kortikale Degeneration · Progressive Ataxie
Cerebellar Ataxia is an inherited neurological disorder that affects the cerebellum, which is the part of the brain responsible for coordinating movement and balance. Due to an autosomal-recessive genetic mutation, nerve cells in this brain region progressively degenerate. This gradual loss of cells prevents the brain from properly controlling the body's movements.
Symptoms usually appear during puppyhood or adolescence, starting with an unsteady, wobbly gait and difficulty balancing. Over time, owners will notice worsening coordination issues, head tremors, and frequent falling.
There is no cure for this progressive condition, and care is focused on supportive management and diagnostic confirmation. Lifelong palliative care and initial diagnostics typically cost between 500 and 3000 EUR.
Estimated range of typical treatment cost. Actual cost depends on severity, clinic and region.
