See puppiesThe black Poodle features a deep, solid jet-black shade evenly distributed throughout its entire curly or corded coat. A healthy coat displays a distinctive sheen, paired with entirely black pigmentation on the nose, lips, eye rims, and nails. Puppies are born solid black, and in lines with strong color genetics, the rich pigment remains stable into adulthood, though sun exposure or aging may occasionally cause mild clearing or red-tinted hair tips. Black is one of the most foundational and common colors in the breed and is regularly seen in litters across all four size varieties in Germany and internationally. Under the official FCI Standard No. 172, solid black is fully recognized as an original and standard coat color.
Black is a colour the FCI standard recognises in the Poodle.
Colour is not a mark of quality. A price premium for a ‘rare’ colour is a warning sign.
