Cream in the Poodle

In the Poodle, the cream coloration presents as a soft, even shade ranging from delicate ivory to champagne across the dense, woolly curly or corded coat. Genetically part of the fawn spectrum, the coat possesses a subtle, silky sheen. Puppies are frequently born with a slightly richer tone that typically softens and clears to a pale cream as their adult coat matures, occasionally retaining warm shading on the ear leathers. Despite the light coat, black or dark pigmentation on the nose, eyerims, and footpads is required. Under FCI Standard No. 172, the fawn category encompasses shades from pale fawn to red; cream falls precisely into this accepted pale fawn range. Consequently, cream Poodles are fully recognized standard dogs and appear regularly in European and German litters across all four size varieties.

Breed standard

Cream is a colour the FCI standard recognises in the Poodle.

Colour is not a mark of quality. A price premium for a ‘rare’ colour is a warning sign.
