BEST1-related retinopathy type 3 · Multifokale Retinopathie Typ 3 · Multifocal Retinopathy Lapponian Herder type
Canine Multifocal Retinopathy 3 (CMR3) is an inherited eye disorder affecting the retina, which is the light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye. It is caused by a genetic mutation that disrupts normal fluid transport within the eye, resulting in small, blister-like detachments of the retina. These localized detachments are generally stable and do not progress to full blindness.
The condition typically develops in puppies between 11 and 16 weeks of age. Owners will rarely notice any symptoms at home, as these retinal changes are painless and generally do not impact the dog's day-to-day vision.
There is no cure or active treatment required for this condition, as it does not cause pain or significant vision loss. Lifetime management consists of routine veterinary monitoring, with estimated costs ranging from 150 to 800 EUR.
