Multifocal Retinopathy 1 is an inherited eye condition affecting the retina, which is the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. It causes small, fluid-filled blisters to form beneath this layer, leading to localized areas of retinal detachment. Despite these structural changes, the overall health of the eye is rarely compromised.
The condition typically develops in puppies between 11 and 15 weeks of age. Owners will rarely notice any symptoms, as it almost never causes pain or visible vision impairment, and is usually only diagnosed during a veterinary eye exam.
No treatment is available or necessary for this condition because it does not affect the dog's quality of life. The only associated costs are for occasional routine veterinary eye examinations, which typically range from 100 to 500 EUR.
Estimated range of typical treatment cost. Actual cost depends on severity, clinic and region.
