This is an inherited eye condition affecting the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. It causes small, fluid-filled blisters to form under the retina, leading to localized areas of detachment. Despite these structural changes, the condition is mild and rarely impairs the dog's vision.
The condition typically develops in puppies between 11 and 15 weeks of age. Owners usually do not notice any symptoms because the blisters are painless and do not affect daily vision, meaning it is typically discovered during a routine veterinary eye exam.
No targeted treatment is available or necessary as the condition is benign and does not progress to blindness. Associated costs are limited to occasional routine check-ups with an eye specialist, typically ranging from 150 to 600 EUR over the dog's lifetime.
Estimated range of typical treatment cost. Actual cost depends on severity, clinic and region.
