Synchronous hind limb movement · EFNB3-related bunny hopping · Bunny-hopping gait · EFNB3-associated synchronous gait · Synchrone Gliedmaßenbewegung
This is a severe neurodevelopmental disorder of the nervous system caused by a genetic mutation in the EFNB3 gene. The mutation prevents the normal crossing of nerve pathways in the spinal cord, which normally allows the left and right sides of the body to coordinate independently. Instead, signals are sent to the limbs in parallel, causing them to move at the same time rather than alternately.
Affected Weimaraner puppies show severe coordination issues from early puppyhood, most notably a synchronized, rabbit-like hopping gait. The neurological impairment is highly severe and prevents normal development.
There is no treatment or cure for this condition, and it unfortunately leads to early euthanasia. Expected costs range from 100 to 500 EUR, which covers basic veterinary diagnostics and humane end-of-life care.
Estimated range of typical treatment cost. Actual cost depends on severity, clinic and region.
